Our Story

My ultimate goal in creating this website is to have a singular place where people can come to share their personal stories about issues or problems they have encountered with their RV/Camper/Travel Trailer.  This is Our Story, but if you have a Nightmare RV story you can share it on the ‘Your Stories” page.

We have lived in Alaska for a very long time, raised our kids their entire lives there and love it.  It is an absolutely beautiful place, and if anyone ever gets the chance to visit, we highly recommend.  Believe me when I say making the decision to leave was not an easy thing to do.  Our kids are growing up quickly and we wanted to share a once in a life time adventure with them before they took off to find their own lives.  We had never traveled much, just did what most people do; try to enjoy life when we could in between working full time and raising a family.  So now we were going to take some time off and travel across the U.S. seeing all the sites and history we could, visit family and friends and maybe find a place to settle down in.  It was going to be amazing!

It took us 4 years of scrimping and saving, tons of garage sales (just saying the word “garage sale”…ugh!), and holding back on frivolous purchases.  Many times we didn’t think we could do it but we finally saved up enough money to start our adventure and we started it off with flights out of Alaska and the purchase of a brand new 2023 Jayco Seismic 5th Wheel RV.  We chose Jayco, not only because we thought it was one of the top RV manufacturers in the industry but because of the amazing warranty they offered. Here is our story…

October 2022

We picked up our brand new 2023 Jayco Seismic 5th Wheel.  It was beautiful, all the bells and whistles.  Definitely spoiled ourselves but you only live once right?  When you purchase an RV, the dealership you are buying it from should do a little walk through of the unit to check for any noticeable structural issues, test water lines, electrical etc. to make sure everything is good to go.  On the day of pick up, after all the paperwork was signed and the service crew completed their walk-thru we were informed that the AC unit temperature prob had to be rewired and the transfer switch replaced, but otherwise the unit was good to go.  However, while completing our walkthrough we did notice that the back ramp door had a hard time closing.  It seemed to get hung up in the top right corner, and you had to force it open and shut — the service tech believed it was due to the unit not being completely level at the time and that if it persisted to contact them immediately and they would get a new door on the way. They also told us to contact them with any additional issues we may find so they could make a note and start working on it.  We agreed to this because we were actually sticking around to visit family for a month so it wouldn’t be that inconvenient.  And here’s where our nightmare begins…

So we took our new RV and all our happy dreams and we drove it approximately 1 hour away and set up at our first RV park.  Of course we noticed right away that the ramp door was still getting hung up, and notified the RV dealership immediately.  They said they would start working on it and call us back shortly.  It only took us a week to find the following additional issues, all of which we reported to the dealership after taking photos and videos:

1.  Front and Rear entry man doors not sealing properly resulting in 3/4-1 inch gaps.

2. Side patio sliding door had large gap along the top allowing water leak in at the bottom corner.

3. Side patio bowing in the middle.

4. Leaks at the purified water pump, under kitchen sink and from somewhere under the bay around the tank area (dripping seen from outside).

5. Wet bay door breaking off hinges, the struts seemed to be too strong and was pushing on the edges (if that makes sense?)

6. BMPro controller constantly loosing connection.

7. Fold down kitchen cabinet hinge came out on day 3 (strut also seemed too strong for the material).

8. Loss of AC Power several times (shore power and breaker tripping not the issue).

9. A few “decorative screws” just sitting hither and thither in a cabinet wall or two -you know, the usual?

When we reported these to the dealership it was with the understanding that they were “working on it” so that when we brought the unit back in a couple of weeks for the patio ramp door issue, they could start fixing these as well.  By this time we were a little bit dismayed but you know, things happen, and nothing’s perfect.  We were going to get it fixed and all would be good in the universe.  We still held out high hopes that we could start our adventure soon.

December 2022

Now it’s December, like I said, we are still enjoying ourselves because we have family close by and we know that with our warranty, everything is going to work out (fingers crossed) but each day that passes gets a little more depressing.  We have been in contact with the dealership and been told first, they were waiting on an approval from Jayco (that apparently takes a bit of time) then that the replacement ramp is not in yet, then that the ramp came in but the stickers were not here yet.  But finally, towards the end of the month, we were able to set up an appt for the middle of January.  By now we have found more issues with our RV:

    1. 2 more leaks found in the bay and the leak under the trailer is now more prominent.
    2. Leak at the toilet where it meets the floor.
    3. White water line in bay crushed flat seemingly due to pressure??
    4. My personal favorite…roof leak in the master bedroom.  Who needs an alarm when you can get waterboarded in the early morning light?
    5. Mold developing in the bay related to the water leaks.
    6. Moryde suspension part snapped off -come to find out there was no grease in the fitting, it had never been lubricated.
    7. Hole in the living room linoleum, staple showing through in hallway area.
    8. Breaker tripping multiple times when attempting to use the leveling system.
I’d like to also mention that while we were dealing mostly with the dealership on these issues, we did attempt to contact Jayco’s customer service in hopes that we could get things moving a little faster but got no help or sympathy from them.

January 2023

So we packed up the RV and headed out to the dealership.  While we had initially been led to believe that as long as we sent pics and videos of our issues, they could start working with Jayco prior to us bringing it in so repairs could get started fairly quickly. This was wrong and the understanding now was that this appointment was to get the back ramp door replaced (only thing currently approved by Jayco), maybe fix a few little things and document all the other issues for Jayco to review for warranty approval.  I do understand this, but it would have been nice to know that up front.

The dealership estimated they would have the rig for approximately 7-10 days initially so we rented a hotel close by.  The following is the final list of the issues reported to the dealership and details on the repairs made:

1.  Rear cargo ramp door hanging up on the corner – Dealership was supposed to replace the door (thinking it was warped?) but after replacing it and finding the same issue happening, realized that the problem was with the actual RV frame.  It was not squared and needed to be re-welded all together.

2. Linoleum staples and hole – noted for Jayco

3. Leak in master bedroom, this leak happened a few times a week but seemed not due to the weather, ie. not just because it rained so it was assumed that maybe it had to do with the A/C causing condensation that was flowing down into our room? –service tech removed the front A/C cover and taped up a couple areas where they thought water was getting through but in the end this was not resolved.

4.  Kitchen sink leak –this was fixed but resulted in wood damage to kitchen island.

5.  Fresh water bottle water pump leak – fitting was replaced.

6.  Main water pump leak – pump was replaced.

7.  Front and Rear man door not sealing properly, large gaps noted – they attempted to bend the doors and readjust but it was stated that the frame itself may be the issue so not resolved.

8.  Leak under the carriage –black water tank was replaced.

9.  Side awning damage:  this was actually damage caused by the dealership itself.  As my husband was dropping it off he watched them back it into one of their bays and rip up the back awning.  All we can do is laugh at this point! – awning arms replaced.

10.  BMPro continuously disconnecting, not only does it disconnect multiple times a day so that you need to restart it (which almost cost us an awning one time when the wind kicked up and we had to take 5 minutes to reconnect so we could pull the awning in) but the lights intermittently flick off/on. – firmware was updated but this didn’t fix the issue.

11.  Cargo bay glass doors not closing properly, large gaps noted – believe to be related to the frame being out of square.

12.  Both bathroom doors not locking  – noted for Jayco.

13.  Main living room slide not sealing when closed –attempted to adjust it but ultimately stated it was an issue with the T-molding so issue not resolved.

14.  Kitchen cabinet drop down door broken – noted for Jayco.

15.  Rear grey tank valve leaking – valve was replaced.

16.  Couch recliner cable (used to pull out the foot rests) snapped, unable to open recliner – noted for Jayco.

17.  Breaker pops while operating the leveling system – breaker replaced but in the end this did not resolve the issue.

18.  Hydraulic pump fluid leak and landing gear keeps settling – noted for Jayco.

19.  Main bathroom toilet leaking along floor – toilet was replaced.

20. Wet bay door broken, the struts seemed to be too strong for the door and bent the frame – door and struts replaced.

21.  Main bedroom door doesn’t touch the magnetic contact which enables it to signal to the system that it’s safe to pull the slide in or out – removed some hardware from door and used foam tape to mount the sensor on the door at an angle, it wasn’t pretty but fixed the issue.

22.  Side patio deck bows in the center.  Jayco support told us this is normal, they also said that if we added any kind of supports (like some other RV’s come with) this would void the warranty and if the patio did brake it would be because we overloaded it which was not covered by warranty unless we could prove it (like via video the moment it happens) – noted for Jayco.

23.  Bathroom sliding pocket door hangs up on a nail when closing/opening tearing up the back of the door – noted by Jayco.

24.  While examining the roof for the leak one of the techs stated that it looked like there was possible roof damage under the liner, like the wood trusses may be splitting and sticking up into the liner – this was noted but we never actually visualized this.

So as you can see by now we have a ton more issues and the dealership was not excited about working on some of them, they did not have the expertise to re-weld a frame and would have to outsource nor did they have the man power for the roof.  My husband had actually became quite friendly with the staff at the dealership and went everyday to get updates or try to help out where he could.  During one of these visits, he was told that Jayco was not getting back with the warranty services dept. and the owner suggested that we also try to call Jayco because we “had more power as customers.”

We called Jayco Customer Service multiple times and each time had to leave a message for our customer service specialist, Samantha and each time never got a call back.  We asked for a supervisor or manager, had to leave a message with no call back.  Our dealership appointment was complete for now, they did all they could do, all we could do was wait on Jayco’s response.  To save money we moved out of the hotel and found a park a couple hours away to set up and wait and maybe see a few sights in the mean time to make this whole nightmare worth while.

February 2023

So at this point it’s been 4 months since we started this trip and nothing we had planned for has gone right, none of our bucket list has been fulfilled. We have just been sitting around waiting for Jayco to approve repairs for our brand new RV that should not have had nearly half of these problems.  We have spent way more money than we originally planned to at this point in time and our savings is slowly dwindling.  We can’t go anywhere because “when a ticket is opened at a dealership the repairs must be completed at that dealership” and I am trying to remain optimistic but it’s hard.  I feel like a failure as a mom for hyping up this amazing adventure to my kids and not being able to even come close to delivering and it’s a devastating feeling no matter how understanding my family may be.

At this point Jayco Customer Service is still not getting back with us, so in an attempt to try to take back some control we did 2 things…

First we went to the Houston RV Show hoping we could find an RV dealer that would take pity on us and maybe give us a secret phone number or contact person that could help out.  What we didn’t realize is that Jayco Representatives were flying in for this show so we were able to speak with Jayco’s Regional Sales Manager (Rob) who took our information and promised to help us out.

Second, we contacted a lemon law lawyer who agreed to take our case.

While Rob, the Regional Sales Manager, was able to get Samantha, the Service Specialist to at least email us (a miracle in itself), it was contacting the lawyer that really got the ball rolling. Shortly after our lawyer took the case, we were emailed by Jayco to let us know that all repairs were approved and Jayco wanted to do them at their Indiana manufacturing facility.  The appointment would be from 4/3/23 to 5/12/23 and they gave us the option to take the RV up ourself or they could make the arrangements.  We chose to take it up to Indiana ourselves so that we could at least do a little site seeing along the way and visit some more family on the East coast afterwards.  This had never been the original plan of course, we had wanted to start on the west coast with the Grand Canyon, California Redwoods, Yosemite National Park, White Sands, Roswell etc. but we were all trying to make the most of things and YEAH we were finally moving on!

March-April 2023

We planned our route to Middlebury Indiana, packed up and headed out.  Along the way we were able to see a few sites and meet some nice people, but it wasn’t what we had dreamed.  I really do hate to complain, which is funny since this entire blog is one big complaint fest, but we were rushing to get up to Indiana so there was very little time to plan or research things, we had really not planned to go northward during the cold months and we weren’t sure what we would do when we got there, we were stressed to say the least.

Our plan was to rent a hotel next to the Jayco facility for a couple of days so we could unpack the RV (requirement set by Jayco before they would take the unit), rent a large moving truck to store all our belongings in and then rent a VRBO home that we could stay in for the 6 weeks Jayco would have our unit.  With a lot of research and calling around we were able to make this happen.

So with more money lost (as we were informed that Jayco would not reimburse or compensate for any of our out of pocket expenses) we unpacked our RV in the middle of the hotel parking lot.  We brought our RV to the facility the exact day Samantha told us to, waited around for approximately 30 minutes while the staff tried to find our paperwork because they were “unaware” of us dropping anything off and then completed a very thorough walk-thru with the service manager and a newly assigned service advisor.  Of course, as you may or may not have guessed we had even more issues to add to the list but in the spirit of kindness, I will save you all the gory details.  We left our RV in their capable hands and took off to our VRBO with all our belongings packed away in a Penske moving truck (thank you very much to Penske for helping us out in this time of need!).

Our new service advisor made sure that we were kept informed the entire time with weekly calls and/or emails which was an amazingly nice adjustment from the way Jayco had been treating us previously.  My husband and I talk about this frequently but it makes such a difference just to be called back, to be treated like you are at least important enough to be responded to.

May 2023

Finally the day came to pick up our RV.  We were very excited to say the least and the Jayco facility graciously allowed us to park in their lot for the weekend to re-pack and organize our RV.  All our problems had seemed to be resolved, the staff appeared to have addressed everything on our list and thoroughly reviewed their repairs with us.

I won’t go through the entire list (we had nearly 50 items) but quickly here are some of the bigger issues that were worked on:

  • Front entry man door was replaced, the Rear entry man door realigned.
  • Cargo ramp door -replaced
  • Side patio door -replaced
  • Moldy wood in bay -replaced
  • Kitchen island -replaced
  • Master bedroom roof leak -roof and end cap replaced
  • Protruding items on roof -membrane replaced
  • BMPro connection issues -software updates
  • AC Power loss – transfer switch replaced
  • Heat pump noise from main AC -replaced entire AC
  • Generator starts up randomly on shore power when AGS is on – Jayco says this is normal, it is designed to start up and run for 10 mins at a time any time the A/C kicks on whether you are on shore power or not which makes no sense at all, it’s supposed to kick on ONLY when you loose shore power.  But they insisted this was a normal function.
  • Inverter E5 fault -replaced
  • Settling jacks -front hydraulic landing gear replaced
  • Fridge randomly warming up -fridge replaced
  • No heat in master bdrm -ducting rerouted/resealed
  • No heat in cargo area – unable to repair, it’s just a poor design for ducting system
  • Main slide T molding warp -new seals added
  • Bathroom floor area sagging next to floor vent – support added
So once everything was back in its place we left for our next destination.  We were heading further east to visit family and attend a wedding and we felt like a huge weight had been lifted off our shoulders.  That feeling didn’t last long though because after setting up and spending a few days camping, we left a message for our Service Advisor to let her know that…

  • The brand new AC they had put into the main living area was making a weird noise and occasionally smelled.
  • The outside lights on the right side (the break/parking/back up lights) were all on and would not turn off.
  • also that we were not really comfortable with the AGS explanation and hoping to get a second opinion.
Yet another new Service Advisor contacted us after about 1 week to set up an appointment with a mobile service tech to at least check out the light situation as we could not actually move the RV anywhere if those lights didn’t work.  By the time The Mobile RV service tech came out the lights had turned off on their own, however we still had a Tow Light Warning light on and the AC still making noise.  So this very kind gentleman took a look at the AC but was not able to do anything more than notate it and was able to get the Tow Light Warning to turn off just by plugging in his diagnostic equipment but there was no explanation offered for what was or had happened.

June-July 2023

And now we are in June, that’s roughly 9 months since we bought our brand new RV, we have barely started our “amazing adventure,” we are running out of time and our RV is still NOT FIXED.  Our brand new AC will now only work on low causing the other AC’s to run almost continuously.  There seems to be a major electrical issue because not only does the BMPro still continually disconnect from the system, but now lights are blinking off and on almost regularly, the water heater/propane and AC’s turn off/on on their own and the slides are not opening or closing properly.  It took us 15 minutes one time to get the back slide to close so we could move on.  The main slide-in is binding and making horrible clunking noises.  Further more, while we did not experience the “right side lights staying on” problem again, we got an error while driving that the left side break/parking/back up lights stopped working so there’s that safety issue.  There are, of course, some small issues like the toilets internal linkage system falling off intermittently or undercarriage wires not being re-secured from the previous repair but I will forgo that boring stuff.

Because of these issues we were afraid to drive anywhere, setting up or tearing down takes way longer than expected, I frequently get in the shower only to realize the water heater had turned itself off again (you think I’d learn :-), we’ve driven to a new park, set up and noted that the water heater has turned it self ON while in route (we don’t drive with water in the tanks so this could be a possible fire hazard) and have even come back from a day of site seeing to our dog panting and in obvious distress because the AC turned off on it’s own and it’s 98 degrees out with a 100+ heat index.

I know some people may say, “maybe it’s you? maybe you just forget to turn these things off/on.”  This is not the case, I am a very organized person, I love lists (as you may have noticed) and every time we tear down I have a list pulled out and we check everything off.  When we park, the first thing on is the AC and then the water heater so we notice right away when something has turned itself on/off.

We have emailed and called Jayco and our Service Advisor but got no response on our new issues or where to go from here.  Finally we contacted our attorney who was actually able to get a reply which was that we needed to take the RV to an RV dealership to have it examined and the issues noted before Jayco could proceed.  This was towards the end of July.

August-September 2023

We started looking up and calling any authorized Jayco Repair facility that seemed to be around us or along a convenient route.  We were attempting to find a place where we could still experience some adventure so it wouldn’t be a total loss…sadly this was not to be.  Most of the dealers were a month or more out on appointments but we finally found one that was a “first come first serve” and decided this would be the best choice.  So….once again we….

Once again, we booked a hotel, unpacked just the bare necessities this time and dropped off our RV.  It is now the end of September and we are still in the hotel.  The dealership, although starting out slow, completed their inspection and received all the approvals from Jayco they needed and Jayco for their part appears to be trying to expedite the shipping of parts but I do want to note that this only seemed to happen AFTER I made a few factual posts on their Facebook page.  I am assuming this because our Jayco Service Advisor mentioned the “social media posts” when she finally called us the day after the posts were made.

Our adventure has pretty much come to an end, we are trying really hard not to go stir crazy in our little hotel room and looking for work to compensate for all the unexpected extra spending we’ve had to do.  All we can do now is wait for the repairs to be completed which we are assuming will be well into the month of October and then probably call it quits.  What was supposed to be a once in a life time experience that we really, really worked hard to make happen has turned into a nightmare and we are all just eager to get rid of this horrid lemon.

I will, of course, update this blog with new or exciting news in the coming months but in the mean time would love to hear any nightmare RV Stories you might have.  When my husband and I started this journey we thought we had done our due diligence when we were researching the different brands but I now know that it’s not as simple as typing the brand into the google search engine and receiving back a list of all the most “popular site.”  Sites with seemingly obvious financial agendas or incentives.  It wasn’t until we started experiencing all these problems that I was actually able to sit down and find Facebook and twitter posts or obscure YouTube videos of people who bought brand new RV’s (expecially during the COVID years) and have gone through a lot of the same nightmares that we have so I am hoping to provide a place for those stories to be told.  Hell, I have nothing better to do at this time now do I?

October-2023

Well it’s moving into the 1st week of October.  The dealership contacted us last week to let us know that they are optimistic about the RV being completed really soon (like in another 1-2 wks).  They were waiting on some final parts from Jayco but a good majority of the repairs were completed to include replacing the control board in the AC (it burned up), putting in another new toilet, fixing another awning issue, and working on issues with the back ramp fencing and the sliding glass doors.  They said that once the final parts came in and were installed, the only thing left was to work on the BMPro problem.  For this they are hoping that a complete reboot of the system will fix everything.  For our part, we are just eagerly waiting with bated breath.  Wish us luck, I’ll let you know what happens…

November-2023

It is now 2 days until Thanksgiving. We finally got our RV back yesterday so there is a lot to be thankful for at the moment.  We have been cleaning and packing up the RV.  We will be spending Thanksgiving dinner at the local Cracker Barrel for convenience sake.  The staff there is nice so it won’t be so bad.  There is a lot to update on though so here goes…

Where to start?  Well, the last thing I wrote was that our RV was going to be completed towards the middle/end of October.  Obviously this did not happen.  Turns out the awning that had originally come in was bent up (in shipping) so Kristy (our extremely amazing and friendly Service Writer at the dealership) had to get a new awning sent up.  She stated that it had been “expedited (per Jayco) but it was mid-late October and the awning was still not in.  It’s a Lippert part and according to many, many sources, Lippert takes their time shipping things out.  In fact, by the time November 1st rolled around the awning was STILL not in.

The awning finally showed up on November 8th (our definition and Lippert/Jayco’s definition of “expedited” are 2 very different things).  The techs got right on installing it and estimated that we should be able to pick up the unit by the end of the week.  Needless to say we were excited.  Now at this time we were informed that, even though initially it was planned that the entire BMPro system would be rebooted as a fix for the electrical issues, apparently Jayco informed the dealership that if the BMPro pad didn’t show an error message, don’t mess with it.  Basically if it’s not reproducible (even though we had video footage of the problems happening repeatedly), then nothing needed to be fixed.  Luckily we had Kristy!  She fought for the rebooting of the system with Jayco and won!  Couple days later we were scheduled to pick up our RV but as you may have guessed, we didn’t get to pick it up because…

  •  During the walk through it was noticed that the main A/C still did not work on HIGH — Turns out that when the dealership said they replaced a “burned up control board” in the A/C they were talking about the front A/C. (so glad they found that) So everyone thought that any “A/C issue” we had was resolved not realizing that we reported having problems with our Main A/C.
  • The reboot of the BMPro did not work, and after the reboot some of the original issues we reported having actually started happening while we were doing the walk through — so my husband mentioned that maybe a node needed to be replaced and the new plan was to request approval from Jayco for this.  Now here’s the funny thing, my husband had said the exact same thing to the repair tech at the Indiana Manufacturing facility who insisted that no the system just needed another update, this is important later in the story.
So we had to leave it there for a little bit longer.  However, like I mention above, we finally have our RV back, we’ve been slowly re-packing things and we are cautiously optimistic that things might be looking better???  Here are the last things I would like to add for this post.

  • The main A/C is now working — turns out someone forgot to connect some wires (or something along those lines) for “HIGH” mode. It has been assumed, though can’t really prove it, that the reason the control board burned up in the front A/C was due to the high demand request when the main A/C only worked on low.
  • The BMPro node was replaced — we were told the old node had what appeared to be a water line on it from when the bay flooded which most likely was the original issue. So far the electrical issues seem to have been resolved.  This was the part where my husband could say “told you so.” AND on a side note, the generator, which if you remember from the May post, turned on every time the A/C kicked on (and Jayco insisted this was normal), well it no longer does that.  We’ve been testing it and so far so good!  Weird huh?
We will be taking off soon, slowly making our way west.  We started this thinking we would spend around 1 year traveling and seeing amazingly awesome things and then hopefully find our forever home towards the end.  You know, the small town with wonderfully nice people that we could settle down in.  Obviously things did not turn out the way we hoped, the traveling part is pretty much done for, all that’s left is to find a place to settle down in.  We are hoping to find it towards the west and have a few places in mind.  Don’t know if we will ever get a chance like this again, actually not even sure we ever want to try again.

All that being said, I will continue to update this blog if there are any more problems with our RV.  I hate to say it but I don’t have a whole lot of confidence that the RV is fixed, but I will let you know either way.

December-2023

Here we are, it’s December 3rd, and we’ve have our RV back from the Dealership for almost 2 weeks now.  We had a lot of high hopes and initially just found a few small things like the vibration mode no longer working on one of the couch seats or the new toilet (the 3rd one so far) now making a continuous farting sound when flushing.  — weird but I guess it’s kind of funny?  We can live with small things, especially considering what we’ve been through this year and I won’t bore you with the details of those small things or any damage the dealership did while working on our RV, HOWEVER….

  1. The  BMPro node was replaced and for a couple days it worked great but now:
    • It frequently disconnects like before.
    • the BLExtender (a blue tooth extender device that allows you to read things like tire pressure and wall switch connections etc.) unpairs itself from the BMPro every other day and just sits in the cabinet blinking blue & red.
    • the AGS issue that we thought was fixed (generator kicking on every time the A/C turns on even though plugged into shore power) has started up again
  2. A/C Heat pump for the main unit is STILL not working.  The A/C is working on high now, which is great but if you turn the heat pump on as well, only cold air blows from ceiling vents.
  3. Main bedroom and main bathroom floor vents do not work, (yes they are open) the temperature difference is noticeable!
    • We orginally had issues with just the Main bedroom floor vent not blowing out any heat and the Indiana Jayco facility stated they had “taped up some areas” and it should be fine.  We hadn’t noticed before because where we were was so hot we only used the A/C’s.

And lastly….wait for it….

  • We woke up last night to our main bedroom roof leaking again!!!!! From the exact same spot as it did a year ago.  What are the odds of that?

All we can do is laugh now, we are obviously going to call Jayco.  I don’t even have anymore words.  We are so unbelievably done with this thing.  I’ll update when I have something more to say.

January-2024

Happy New Years all!  Although not too much has changed, we wanted to give another little update to how things are going with our Nightmare RV. While we have not yet been back to an authorized Jayco Repair facility, we have contacted Beth, our Jayco “Consumer Affairs Manager” to let her know that we were once again having issues (both new and old).  Beth offered us 3 possible resolutions…

  • 1. take it back to an authorized Jayco repair facility.
      • this was the option given to us literally 6 days after just getting it back from a dealership that had our RV for over 3 months so I’m sure you can guess how excited we were to hear that!
  • 2. bring the unit back to the Indiana Jayco manufacturing facility. *Beth preferred this resolution*
      • considering all the issues we have had after getting it back from the actual manufacturer last time, we don’t consider this the “BETTER” option even if Beth does.
  • 3. have a mobile repair service come out to try to work on the more prominent issues, with the following stipulations added:
      • repairs would most likely take a little bit longer because any items needing to be ordered would need to be shipped to an authorized Jayco dealership and then the repair service could go pick them up
      • we would most likely have to pay up front and then trust that Jayco would pay us back?
      • we’d obviously have to hang out wherever, for god knows how long, working on the techs time. (no offense to any mobile service techs!)

so after discussing all possible resolutions with Beth we decided that when we were able to (we are working on our time now, not Jayco’s), we would make an appointment with the nearest Jayco dealership to turn our unit for the 4th time.

We have compiled a list of for your perusal…

      • Heat pump doesn’t work- this has been an issue from the very beginning and even after getting the whole unit replaced (at least that’s what we were told), it STILL doesn’t work.
      • Loud rattling noise – it is believed by some techs this is something hanging down in the duct but its occurred from the very beginning and definitely not a “whisper quiet A/C”
      • Ducting in the roof of the kitchen (closest to the windows) now barely blows out air.
  • Back ramp:
      • The door that lets you through the ramps fence is warped, it’s hard to explain but the door frame overlaps over the fence frame so that it grinds and must be lifted and pulled apart to open/close.
      • Right side screen door will no longer latch closed
      • There is still a large hole going along the top of the left side of the screen doors.  Can stick your fingers through.  This was something that appeared after the Jayco facility replaced the back ramp/frame and the most recent dealership basically forgot to work on it by the time we came to pick up the RV and pointed it out they stated they would have to take the entire back area apart and it would take a couple weeks.  BUT their temporary solution was that we could stuff rags in the hole -even offered to give us a spare rag so that was sweet.
  • Patio:
      • The sliding door is once again leaking when it rains.  This was fixed the first time at the original dealership we bought the RV from.
  • Awnings:
      • The lights are coming off of the front awning (the newly replaced one), this was noticed approximately a week after getting it back.
      • The awning attached to the living room main slide is binding and bows tightly in the middle, rubbing up against the slide and making it difficult to pull slides in and out.  This has been a recurring issue, this awning was fixed most recently but that obviously didn’t fix the issue.
  • BMPro (replacing the node this last time seemed to fix many of these issues but only for a couple of days):
      • Continues to disconnect daily.
      • Continues to turn lights off/on as well as the water heater and furnace.
      • Now receiving multiple error messages (little symbols) on the pad related to the slides and leveling system.
      • Not able to connect remotely to the system, this has been an ongoing issue we had actually just given up on all together.
      • And of course the AGS/generator issue.
  • BLExtender:
      •  Keeps unpairing with the BMPro, this would normally allow bluetooth connection between the BMPro and multiple switches throughout the RV.
  •  Masterbedroom:
      •  The roof is leaking again from the same spot as before.  The first dealership attempted to fix this by taping up some ducting centered around the A/C unit back there and the Jayco facility just replaced the roof altogether-so that’s 2 attempts.
      • Floor at the end of the bed has a nice, visible dip in it now.  When we dropped it off at Jayco it just had a nice little squeak and a little bit of “give” when stepped on.
      • Sensor behind the door that allows the slide to be brought in continues to have connection issues.  The first dealership “jerry rigged” it and Jayco looked at it but that was all.  You really have to play with the door to get a nice connection before the system lets you pull the slide in or out.
  •  Floor ducting:
      •  We didn’t notice before because we didn’t have cause to use the heat when we got it back from the Jayco facility but the floor ducts in the bathroom and master bedroom barely blow out any air.  Jayco had originally worked on it because we had issues with just the bedroom.  We leave all doors open otherwise it’s a noticeable 10-15 degrees difference.
  • Door Locks:
      •  So this is just a funny one.  From the beginning we have had issues with all the interior door locks, they either didn’t work at all or there was such a large gap in the frames that it wouldn’t matter if they were locked.  This issue has been worked on by every dealership and facility we’ve had it at.  This last time all the locks were finally fixed EXCEPT our main bathroom door.  This door will actually “lock” now but the problem is it won’t “Unlock!!!!!” causing us to get stuck inside trying to get out.
  • Leveling issues:
      • Occasionally the outside leveling buttons won’t work at all, sending off error codes to the BMPro which is always fun to figure out.
      • The breaker pops pretty much every time we go to set the camper up or tear it down for moving.  It’s pretty frequent.
  •  Shower wall is separating from the backing-this is new.
  • Fireplace shuts off intermittently (no the timer isn’t on).
Ugh, I feel like there is more but my head hurts.  Thank you once again for visiting, sorry this is so long, it is appreciated though.

April-2024

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here and wanted to give another update as to how were are doing…  Our plans still stand at taking this Nightmare RV back to a Jayco dealership to try and have these issues fixed, the new and the old.  Hopefully 4th times the charm?  We haven’t turned it in yet because we are trying to find our “forever home” at the moment.  We are no longer willing (or able) to dole out money for hotels, especially after the last place had our RV for almost 4 months!

Side note: did you know that there is a “Venue clause” in Jayco’s warranty paperwork (you know, the paperwork you don’t see until AFTER you sign on the dotted line, then it’s presented to you as part of the RV manual) that states any legal disputes related to an alleged breach of warranty or RV purchase must be filed in the courts within the state of Indiana.  While many people try to fight this clause, I haven’t found a case yet that hasn’t been transferred to Indiana.  Kind of sneaky if you ask me, and Jayco isn’t the only RV manufacturer that does it. I will officially be asking to see EVERY single warranty from here on out!

Thank you once again, and stay safe out there.

So you know. It’s not just you having this kind of problem. And it’s not just Jayco. It’s all manufacturers. I’m having many issues with my NEW Keystone Raptor.

I’m so sorry it took me so long to reply to you, I didn’t see your comment until now. I agree completely with you, it’s definitely not just Jayco. In the RV parks/campgrounds that we have been to we’ve been able to speak with so many RV’ers with stories about major issues they’ve having with all brands of RV’s, the only thing all the stories seem to have in common is that they are new RV’s. What kinds of problems have you been having? Also, have you ever heard of “Liz Amazing”? She is a YouTuber with over 100,000 subscribers that uses her influence to help people with major RV issues. She’s helped quite a bit of people from what I’ve seen.
